JOHN ESCHBAECHER – MMus (LCM), BMus (Hons)

PASSIONATE AND DEDICATED STUDENTS WELCOME, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY!

With a Masters in Popular Music Performance and teaching experience that spans over 20 years, I feel extremely pleased to have inspired, developed and nurtured many fantastic drummers and musicians who have gone from strength to strength, of which many now continue to inspire others with their own performing and teaching.

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced drummer looking for further development, I offer friendly and inspirational lessons that not only aim to develop fundamental techniques, but also utilise creative concepts to enhance each student’s individual style and sound.

DELIVERY

Lessons are delivered ‘live’ on a one-one basis through Skype, or via personally tailored, pre recorded videos. To ensure that all students receive the lessons clearly and effectively, I utilise multiple camera angles, including an overhead shot to demonstrate concepts from the drummer’s perspective. I also include a view of my pedals, enabling students to observe appropriate foot techniques, independence and motion.

When I started teaching, one of the most important educational resources I had was a pen and an old fashioned pad of manuscript paper. I still believe this to be of equal importance today. As a result, I always have an iPad and Apple Pen ready for live visual illustration, sharing scores and note taking. Not only does this maintain the most interactive and personally tailored approach possible, but also enables me to e-mail the lesson resources created throughout the session.

SESSION TYPES

WEEKLY OR FORTNIGHTLY LIVE SESSIONS

Regular sessions are perfect for students wishing to continually improve and develop their skillset as a drummer and musician. These sessions will be scheduled at a regular time, weekly or fortnightly.

ONE-OFF LIVE SESSIONS

One-off sessions are a great opportunity for those who would like to experience a lesson for the first time, or for students wishing to develop / focus specifically on particular aspects of their drumming or performance. Example topics could include:

Specific Techniques – Coordination / Independence – Solo Development – Rhythm & Groove Construction – Orchestration – Rhythm and Chart Reading – Supporting the Music – Timing (Clicks & Subdivisons) – Musical Direction / Following a Conductor – Finding your Musical Path

PRE-RECORDED

Learning via pre-recorded content is perfect for students wishing to remain flexible with their study, or perhaps find it difficult to commit to a regular session time. With this option, I fully tailor and record a fortnightly video lesson with accompanying notes / scores and practice material. Students will subsequently study the content in their own time, send back their recorded progress as required, then receive feedback and a proceeding video lesson.

TECHNICAL SUGGESTIONS

If required, I’ll be more than happy to offer friendly technical advice on setting up ready for your online sessions. This can include suitable laptop or tablet camera angles, achieving the best sound, or simply just setting up Skype. Although not a necessity, if you wish to enhance your online lesson experience further, I’ll gladly recommend additional (basic and inexpensive) equipment such as USB microphones and cameras.
